Meta just released its first dedicated AI app, bringing its chatbot directly to iPhones and iPads.

Built using the company’s Llama 4 AI model, the app provides a specific place for users to interact with Meta AI through text or voice.

This new app replaces the Meta View app, which was previously focused on managing Meta’s smart glasses.

While Meta AI features were already integrated into Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp, this standalone app offers a more focused experience, similar to competitors like ChatGPT and Gemini. There’s also a web version available.

According to 9to5Mac, Meta has improved the voice interaction features, aiming for more conversational and relevant responses powered by Llama 4.

The app also lets you generate and edit images directly within your conversation with the AI assistant.

Meta included an experimental voice demo feature that uses advanced speech technology for more natural AI voice generation, though it doesn’t access real-time web info and may have some hiccups.

Using the app requires a standalone Meta account. For a more tailored experience, you can choose to connect your Facebook or Instagram accounts, allowing the AI to draw on profile information and content you interact with. This personalization is rolling out in the US and Canada.

True to Meta’s style, the app includes a social element: a “Discover” feed. Here, users can share their AI prompts and see how others are using the tool, remixing ideas they find interesting. Sharing to the feed is entirely optional.
