Meta Just Gave Its AI Assistant Its Own Address

Key Takeaways

  • Meta has released a new standalone AI assistant app.
  • Users can chat with the AI using text or voice commands (voice available in select countries).
  • The app can answer questions, create images, and fetch web search results.
  • It features a “Discover” feed showcasing prompts shared by other users.
  • This new app replaces the former “View” companion app for Meta’s smart glasses.

Meta recently launched a new, separate app for its AI assistant, putting it in direct competition with tools like ChatGPT.

This Meta AI app lets you interact by typing or simply talking to it. While currently only available in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, the voice feature aims for more natural-sounding conversations.

You can ask the AI questions, have it generate images for you, or use it to look things up online. The goal is to provide a helpful, personal AI experience.

According to the announcement reported by Rappler.com, the app can offer more personalized interactions if you connect your Facebook or Instagram accounts and allow access.

A unique feature is the “Discover” feed. Here, you can see interesting ways other people are using the AI, view popular prompts, and even adapt them for your own use. Meta emphasizes that nothing is shared to this feed unless you explicitly choose to post it.

Interestingly, this isn’t an entirely brand-new application. Meta confirmed it actually replaces the “View” app previously used for their Ray-Ban smart glasses.

While Meta’s AI features are already widely used within Facebook and Instagram, reaching nearly a billion users this way, the company believes a dedicated app offers a more straightforward way for people to engage with an AI assistant.

The Meta AI app is now available for download on both Android and iOS devices.
