Siri’s Unexpected Fix Might Come Directly From Google AI

Key Takeaways

  • Google’s Gemini AI might soon be an option for iPhone users to enhance Siri’s capabilities.
  • Talks between Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Apple CEO Tim Cook suggest a deal could happen this year.
  • Gemini could handle complex queries and tasks that Siri currently struggles with, similar to the recent ChatGPT integration.
  • This move comes as Google replaces its own Assistant with the more advanced Gemini AI across its products.
  • Apple appears open to letting users choose their preferred AI assistant on their devices.

If you’ve ever felt frustrated asking Siri for help, relief might be on the way, potentially with help from Google.

Apple’s voice assistant, Siri, was a pioneer but hasn’t quite kept up with recent AI advancements. Sometimes, it struggles with complex requests, as one user experienced when asking Siri to find a coffee shop suitable for working.

To bridge this gap, Apple recently partnered with OpenAI, allowing Siri to pass tougher questions to ChatGPT. However, this integration isn’t always smooth.

Now, Google might step in. Google CEO Sundar Pichai mentioned ongoing talks with Apple CEO Tim Cook about bringing Google’s own powerful AI, Gemini, to iPhones. A Digital Trends report highlights that Pichai hopes for a deal by mid-year, following discussions throughout 2024.

Google is currently upgrading its own services, replacing the older Google Assistant with the much more capable Gemini on Android phones, wearables, and other devices. Gemini can handle deeper research, work across apps, and even generate content.

If a deal happens, Gemini could work alongside Siri on iPhones, much like ChatGPT does now. You might even be able to choose Gemini as your preferred AI helper, similar to picking a default web browser.

Hints of this collaboration aren’t new. An Apple executive previously mentioned letting users pick their AI model, specifically naming Gemini as a possibility. Code snippets suggesting Gemini integration have also reportedly been spotted.

While Gemini is already available as a separate app for iPhones, integrating it directly with Siri could make it much easier to access its advanced features without leaving the familiar voice command interface.

This potential partnership could offer iPhone users a significantly smarter voice assistant experience while Apple continues developing Siri’s own future capabilities.
